 A HOUSE IN THE LAKES

BY BROWN + BROWN ARCHITECTS

A House in the Lakes was a set of visuals we created for our client Brown + Brown Architects. Perched upon a sensitive, naturally beautiful hillside and surrounded by mature grounds, this home was planned in an area whereby the nearby homes were not of a contemporary nature. Our client required this house to connect with the landscape. We took photographs of the landscaping, gathering HDRI (High Dynamic Range Imagery) for geographical lighting, reference, and reflections.

Nestled into the hillside, the building was sheltered by its established grounds, yet elevated to make the most of the adjacent views into the hills and valley. The key viewpoints for the visuals were identified to showcase the external impact of the building from all angles, highlighting minimal disruption to the surrounding area. The existing mature landscaping complemented the modern nature of this home, blending the two together almost made it look and feel like it had always been there. The interior visuals helped the prospective homeowners see how the space would blend into their lives, how they could make the most of the spectacular views by having the building elevated in a cantilever style.  These visuals guided key decisions, helped shaped the design, gained confidence, and supported the planning application.

LADYFIELD MASTERPLAN

BY COLLECTIVE ARCHITECTURE

Ladyfield Masterplan was a project we worked on with Collective Architecture and The Crichton Trust. This landscape-led design plans to protect and enhance the natural heritage of the site, while creating a sustainable, inter-generational community for people to live and work in Dumfries. With a diversity of housing options and well connected neighbourhoods, this masterplan plans to promote wellbeing, with a focus on active travel, sustainable living, and energy-saving homes.

Our visuals were used at a relatively early stage of the masterplan, showcasing the look and feel of the whole development within the sensitive, historic site. The images were used as part of community consultations, shared with existing residents, organisations, and within various meetings. They were then used as an integral part of the planning application with Dumfries and Galloway Council, and likely as part of the ongoing marketing plan.

WHARFINGER HOUSE

By Klas Hyllén Architecture

Wharfinger House is a Georgian Grade II listed house that our clients Klas Hyllén Architecture required a set of visuals to use for design and planning purposes. The visuals show the architects' plan to add some contemporary flair to this older building, which used to be the old wharf master’s house who controlled the lock and small marina on the nearby Kennet & Avon canal.

As well as modernising the exterior, the visuals show the complete overhaul of the interior. The sleek brick extension houses a living space while opening up into the garden and modernised kitchen within the existing building. Within the extension, a zinc lantern is added over the living space, designed with a form that plays on the asymmetrical roof volume of the existing house.

Our visuals helped the Architect gain planning and listed building approval in 2023, with work beginning on the build in September 2023.

NORTH SUTHERLAND HEALTH & SOCIAL CARE HUB

BY OCA STUDIO

North Sutherland Health & Social Care Hub was a project we worked on for our client, OCA Studio. The ambitious partnership between The Highland Council, NHS Highland and Wildland, plans to provide an exceptional new health and care facility in the Highland village of Tongue.

The facility is planned to consist of a new state-of-the-art residential care facility, integrated care team services and a new GP surgery. Our visuals were used to show the planned building within the existing environment, the views of Ben Loyal and Kyle of Tongue, and the planned landscaping surrounding the building.

Although this will become Tongue’s largest building by far, the building wraps its form over a full height retaining wall along its spine, modulating its plan to reflect the natural contours of the site and creating a relative domestic scale.

Our visual were used for many reasons, including design verification, community consultations and as part of the planning application.

BEREWEEKE ROAD

BY ADAM KNIBB ARCHITECTS

Bereweeke Road was a project for our client Adam Knibb Architects. This sustainable, contemporary building draws inspiration from mid-century modern architecture. Our visuals helped to show the overall building, highlighting the seamless connection between the indoor and outdoor spaces. With stepped terraces linking the projecting volumes to the swimming pool and garden area, the design is both elegant and functional, with an impressive cantilever adding a dramatic touch to the street-facing façade. Our visuals helped design decisions, gain client confidence and assisted the planning application process, as well as being used within the clients website as part of their portfolio of work.

 KING’S CAIRN

BY BROWN + BROWN ARCHITECTS

King’s Cairn was designed by our client Brown + Brown Architects. Planned for a site within a beautiful estate on the East Lothian coast, the visuals of this house highlighted the planned range of materials and its unique layout. Described by the architect as ‘a grouping of buildings connected by glazed links and external colonnades’, the visuals highlight the subdued palette of materials, with oiled oak timber linings internally, and a combination of natural stonework, black painted timber, and black standing seam zinc externally. The visuals have been used for design verification, as part of the architects’ portfolio, and for gaining planning permission for this subtle and understated contemporary home. In 2021, we also won a Scottish Design Award for the visuals we created for this project.
